I found a really interesting site.
the great Dave Cooper (see above) shows a step-by-step of one of his paintings. Its interesting stuff. you should check it out. check it out. -ck it out. these echos are really terrible. I need some more people seeing this so that i'm not just talking to myself. :S (I know that was lame, but nobody is going to see it anyway so it doesn't matter)

and I don't know about anyone else but I like his pen and ink work/drawings/studies more than his paintings.

I suppose they are very different creatures, even though they are the same shapes.
the paintings instantly lose the crispness of line and the major black/white contrast.
but they gain softness and they turn into what I see as another illustration, nothing jumps out to me.
I think the drawings are fantastic. I love the way that objects gain texture just from the outline of whatever it is, for example the cauliflour-ness of the thighs and the kind of fluffy worn wood texture on the fence in this image.
the fade-out is nice too..
I guess what I really want to do is ask why people see paintings as being so much more valuable and finished than drawings? in this case I don't really see it as having gained anything except colour(and is that not something that you could get across in a drawing anyway?
well I suppose it is all just personal preferance in the end. theres no dominant power that says this is the right way to do it or that is the right way to do it. I just don't think people give it enough thought sometimes and take these constructs as something that has always, and will always be the same.
me included. I saw the step-by-step painting thing and it made me want to paint even though I like my drawings better than my paintings... strange that.
and heres some of my doodles (these aren't the drawings that I mentioned above).
